AAPS Community Scholarships, Grants and Applications

The Chartwells Scholarship is for graduating seniors pursuing a culinary arts, hospitality, nutrition, dietetics or related education.


Scholarship Eligibility Criteria and Amount:

  • Any AAPS High School Senior can apply
  • Pursuing culinary arts, hospitality, nutrition, dietetics or related education.
  • 2 awards of $5,000 each

In order to complete this application, you will need the following:

  • Answers to an essay question. See below.

Applications are due by Friday, March 14, 2025 at 10pm.

Applicants will be notified by the end of April, 2025.

The ABM Services Scholarship Provides a college scholarship to a graduating senior with financial need and an interest in a career in business or a business-related field.


Scholarship Eligibility Criteria and Amount:

  • Any AAPS High School Senior can apply
  • Pursuing a career in business or related field.
  • Financial Need 
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • 5 awards of $4,000 each (1 per school).

In order to complete this application, you will need the following:

  • Answers to an essay question. See below.

Applications are due by Friday, March 14, 2025 at 10pm.

Applicants will be notified by the end of April, 2025.

The Durham Transportation Services Scholarship provides college scholarships to graduating seniors with financial need and who demonstrate good citizenship and community involvement.


Scholarship Eligibility Criteria and Amount:

  • Any AAPS High School Senior can apply
  • Has financial need 
  • Demonstrates good citizenship and community involvement.
  • 4 awards of $5,000 each

In order to complete this application, you will need the following:

  • Answers to an essay question. See below.

Applications are due by Friday, March 14, 2025 at 10pm.

Applicants will be notified by the end of April, 2025.

The Dorothy M. Russell Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to any graduating Ann Arbor High School student who plans to attend college and major in Education.  Dorothy M. Russell, now deceased, was a teacher with the Ann Arbor Public Schools for many years.

 Scholarship Eligibility Criteria and Amount:

  • Any AAPS High School Senior can apply.
  • Pursuing a career in Education.
  • Financial need.
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • 1 award of $5,000.

In order to complete this application, you will need the following:

  • Information regarding your family's household income.
  • Unofficial transcript.

Applications are due by Friday, March 14, 2025 at 10pm.

Applicants will be notified by the end of April, 2025.

The Lisa Ann Gallagher Memorial Scholarship was set up by family and friends of Lisa, a 1978 graduate of Huron High School.


Scholarship Eligibility Criteria and Amount:

  • Female Senior at Huron High School.
  • GPA of 3.2 or higher.
  • Participates in school, community and sports activities
  • Has financial need
  • 2 awards of $1,650 each

In order to complete this application, you will need the following:

  • Descriptions of extracurricular, volunteer and leadership activities.
  • A 500-750 word essay.
  • One letter of recommendation (optional).
  • An unofficial transcript.

The Wendy Moorhead Memorial Scholarship was created to acknowledge a female runner in cross country and/or track who reflects the values and abilities that were demonstrated by Wendy Moorhead, a Huron High School student.

 The values and abilities demonstrated by Wendy M. Moorhead:

  • Wendy was compassionate to all humans, animals and the environment, regardless of background and belief.  She was encouraging and helpful to those less fortunate and those less skilled/talented than herself. She had a zest for life and a positive attitude. Wendy worked hard and didn't complain, and she had both self-discipline and a collaborative spirit.  Wendy’s love for her family and friends radiated from her always.
  • Wendy was committed to preparing for being a responsible member of her team. She loved to run. Her smile would warm your heart and her sense of humor was delightful.
  • Wendy was kind, empathetic, driven, supportive, understanding, humble, an achiever, and most remembered-Wendy was resilient.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Senior female or female identifying runner who has participated on the women’s cross country and/or track teams at Huron High School.
  • GPA of 2.8 or better is desirable
  • The committee may consider need in determining the scholarship award
  • First generation college students, students with identified learning challenges,  and students from underserved communities are encouraged to apply.
  • Award must be used for tuition or related expenses to an accredited college, university or trade school.

Award Amount: $2,000

In order to complete this application, you will need the following:

  • A recommendation letter.  You will be able to email a person who can recommend you for this scholarship as pat of the application.  Please note that the application is not complete until the recommendation letter is submitted.
  • Answers to 3 short essay questions. See below.

Applications are due by Friday, April 11, 2025

The Jane Landefeld Scholarship was named after a long time AAPS employee, Jane Landefeld.  Her two children attended Huron High School.  Jane passed away on August of 2022.  This scholarship was created in her honor and to provide a college scholarship to a Huron graduating senior with financial need and who participates in Huron athletics.


Scholarship Eligibility Criteria and Amount:

  • Any AAPS Huron High School Senior can apply
  • Has financial need 
  • Participates in Huron Athletics
  • 1 award of $2,000 
  • Award must be used for tuition or related expenses to an accredited college, university or trade school.

Preference will be given to:

  • First generation college students, students with identified learning challenges, and students from underserved communities are encouraged to apply.

In order to complete this application, you will need the following:

  • Letter of recommendation from an AAPS employee.

The Darlene Tankersley Scholarship was created by a Huron High alumni wanting to give back to the school that helped her become the woman she is today.  The scholarship is named after former Huron High teacher, Darlene Tankersley.  This college scholarship is to provide a Huron graduating senior with financial need towards a college, university or trade school.


Scholarship Eligibility Criteria and Amount:

  • Any AAPS Huron High School Senior can apply
  • Has financial need
  • Has a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • 2 awards of $5,000 each 
  • Award must be used for tuition or related expenses to an accredited college, university or trade school.

In order to complete this application, you will need the following:

  • Answers to two essay questions. See below. 

Applications are due by Friday, March 14, 2025 at 10pm.
